Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up within New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. From 1981 onwards she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell won the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her role in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on in the White House in 1981-1988, and during the presidency of Ronald Reagan. She covered many notable stories such as arm control, the budget tax as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
